A boy named Clifford M'Ghie was knocked down by a motor-car in Hin--toul-street this morning. One of his legs was injured, and it was found necessary to remove him to the Hospital. . In Hayelock last week, states an exchange) a stranger, apparently of military age, attracted the notice of Constable Douglas, and when challenged was unable to produce a registration or clearance card. On his being searched a certificate was found in .one of his pockets, showing that the man (whose name ia Arthur James Flaherty) had been drawn in the 9th ballot on the 4th July at Greymouth, had passed the medical examination on the 19th July, and was expected to parade at the Drill Hall, Greymouth, on 22nd August. Instead of doing so, it appears the man at onco "cleared out," and had succeeded in evading his military duties until accosted by tho constable at Havelock. After satisfying himself that the man was a deserter, tho constable promptly took I him into Blenheim and handed him over ito the police. It is understood that Flaherty will be tried by court-martial in Wellington. , The provocation leading to the lynching of Little, an I.W.W. agitator, at Butte, Montana, on Ist August, was undoubtedly very great, remai'ks a San Francisco weekly, " There appears to have been committed under Little's leadership a series of. gross' 1 outrages against life, and property.
