LACK OF UNIFORMITY
»One more illustration of the lack of iiniformity amongst some of the Allied countries in regard to the announcement in; <tho press of the date of the departure of steamers, and also of the closing of; mails, is afforded by the information contained in a New York trade circular dated Ist August, which has just come tp hand (states the\ Otago Daily Times). In Australia and New Zealand no information is.given as to the date of sailing or the destination of oversea vessels. In Australia, however, the date of the closing of overseas mails is published ; in New Zealand, this practice is not permitted. In. the New York trade review under notice, however, the following information is printed: "s*& (the name is given), and line (the name is :given) to clear about —— (date grv-en). For Lyttelton, Port Chahraers, or Dunedin, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantte." It would appear a most futile arrangemecA for one country far from the danger zone to be prevented from pubEshing such intoiroaton white amother country, far nearer to Germany, k permitted to potficfe meum tk+^jmtiagi-.
