LOCAL AND GENEHAL ■ ♦ ■' ' A report was in circulation in the city this morning that a serious accident had occurred to -a well-known local member of Parliament while motoring to Otaki. Enquiries made by a Post reporter elicited that there was not the slightest foundation for the report. To-day, the proclamation of New Zealand as a Dominion was marked by the closing of Government offices, legal offices, public . schools, .and the flying' of I flags on public buildings. Otherwise there is nothing to celebrate the occasion. Races are being held at Otaki, and, _as the Railway Department failed to provide any facilities, motor-cars were resorted I to by most Wellingtonians who desired' to attend the meeting. The bookings' to stations near Otaki numbered from 50 to 60. To-night there will be a reunion, of early settlers at the Town Hall.
