MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Several inebriates were dealt with at today's sitting of the Magistrate's Court, which was presided over by Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M. John Smith and Percy Edmonds were each fined 20s, with the alternative of serving seven days in gaol, while .three first offenders, _ including a. Japanese, were dealt wjtb in the usual manner. Daniel M'Farlane had to admit a lengthy record and was sent to gaol for three months. A further remand for medical treatment was granted in the case of Jack Fox, who was charged with being helplessly drunk. A soldier named Patrick Ryan admitted a breach o£ his prohibition,order, and was convicted andi ordered to be handed over to the military authorities. Cornelius O'Shea, who was described as a seaman on an oversea steamer, was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, while on a charge of using obscene lan; guage he was sentenced to three months imprisonment. It was stipulated that he should be handed over the captain of- tho vessel should the latter so apply.
