MINER'S CLAIM FOR DAMAGES
COAL COMPANY'S APPEAL.

WESTPORT, This Day. The Supreme Court was occupied yesterday hearing the appeal of the West-port-Stockton Coal Company v. Waterson. The respondent was a brakesman in the appellant company's colliery, who was injured in a tunnel.in September last, and in July last claimed damages in the Warden's Court for £300, when the assessors awarded him the full amount claimed and costs. The defendant company appealed in accordance with the provisions of the Mining Act by way of a rehearing. A jury of four was empanelled, on the application of the respondent, and returned a verdict for the full amount again. By agreement of counsel, certain legal points were deferred for argument before the Full Court at Wellington.
