WAR VETERANS

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIA- '■■ . TION.

It is a. far cry to the days when the veteran of the present day went forth to meet the Empire's enemies in battle, but to the veterans themselves these historical events are but happenings of yesterday. This fact was exemplified at the annual meeting of the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Association of Veterans held last evening, where members, who are woiit to address each other as "comrades," gathered to transact business, and, incidental!}', exchange reminiscences. Tho chair was occupied by Mr, George B. Purdey (vice-presi-dent), who read an interesting report dealing with the operations of the past twelve months. He expressed his appreciation of the advance made by the association, and referred in particular to the Eact that the Government had acceded to their representations for better recognition in the way of increased pensions. Mr. Purdey paid a special tribute to the untiring energy of the secretary and treasurer (Mr. S. Stidolph), who had been an ideal officer. A financial statement read by iVh. Stidolph showed that during the year the sum of £19 had been paid out for beneivolence. ■ The credit balance in the bank at the present time was £78 Is 7d, which was regarded as eminently satisfactory, The election of officers resulted as follows : Vice-president, Captain J. Henry,' secretary and treasurer. Mr. J. Davidson ; auditor, Mr. T. Bland; delegates to annual conference. Colonel M'lntosh and Mr. R. Tingey; committee, Messrs. G. B. Pnrdey, O. B. Fox, H. Arden, J. Robinson, J." Brown, R. TingeyV and S. Stidolph. Mr. Stidolph, who has held the position of secretary and treasurer for the past seventeen years, was accorded .a hearty vote of thanks.

Having transacted the business, the veterans indulged in a social evening.
