INSPECTOR'S SALARY
PUBLIC HEALTH COMMITTEE'S
RECOMMENDATION.
The Public Health Committee of the City Council reported last night that it had received the following statement of accounts showing the result of the arrangement entered into with the Minister of Public Health, relating to the- payment of the Milk Inspector's salary, and the disposal of license fees and fines from prosecutions, for twelve months:— GOVERNMENT, £ s. d. Fines received 96 10 0 One-third salary paid ... 64 15 7 COUNCIL. £ s. d. Licenses received, 39 0 0 Two-thirds salary paid ... 129 11 3 Milk samples 17 H 0 Stationery 11 15 7 Motor hire 27 9 10 Tram fares 5 18 6 6undries „.,.... 4 10 Total 196 10 2 It may be, said the committee, that the Pnblic Health Department has other expenditure in addition to one-third of the salary, the analyst's fee, for instance, but that would be for the department to supply. The committee recommended that the Minister be supplied with a copy of the statement, and requested to re-consider the basis of the apportionment in the direction of fixing the amount payable by the Government for the salary at onehalf, and also to allow the council onehalf of the fines. * In reply to an interjection, the Mayor stated the representations wonld be made by letter, as the Minister was a very busy man.
