POTATO PRICES FIRM.
_ The New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Distributing Co. report to-day that the potato market is still taking an upward tendency, and from information to, hand is likely to remain firm until new crops are ready. Fowl wheat is now practically off the market, only very odd parcels being offered. Oats are very firm, and unless shipping from Anstralia is resumed prices are likely to go still higher. A few small lines of old maize are still being offered, and parcels of new crops are now on the market at slightly higher rates. On account of no outside cargoes arriving the supply of onions is now exhausted, only ,a few remnants of late shipments' being on offer. Bran and pollard are almost unprocurable, and owing to the fact that some of the Southern mills have closed down, future supplies are still more uncertain. Prime pork is still in good demand at slightly higher rates. The supply of poultry is not equal to the demand, and enquiries are very persistent for same. The vegetable market is very bare, and all lines are realising higher figures. Spring cabbage is now arriving, and although not well hearted is realising satisfactory rates. Cauliflower is still maintaining high values. On account of no bran being available, carrots are being used as a substitute, and in consequence prices have advanced. Lettuce is very scarce and record prices aje being obtained. Beetroot is stiH in good demand, and values ' are very high. Marrows and pumpkins are not so plentiful, and full values are being obtained. Swedes have taken -a considerable advance and celery is somewhat scarce. .Spring onions, leeks, and artichokes are all eagerly'sought after. ,_ Apples of all descriptions aTe very short in supply and somewhat higher prices are being obtained. Pears also show an upward tendency in price.
