PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY
The modern idea* of the form and nature of the "Nebulae" were most ably marshalled by :IMr. A. C. ' Cifford, F.R.A.S., at the astronomical section of the Philosophical Society in the Dominion. Museum last evening. The speaker said that it was-probable that the Galaxy, or Milky Way as. it ifi popularly known, is a spiral nebula near the centre of which the solar system lies. The various types. of nebula* were illustrated by beautiful lantern slides made from photographs taken at some of the great observatories. The paper, which contained much that wa« new, provoked an interesting discussion among members. Dr. C. X Adams exhibited the "Uranometria Argentina," a fine series of star charts made at the Cordoba Observatory, Argentine Republic. ,
