MAGISTRATE'S COURT
To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. S. B. M'Carthy, S.M., who dealt with a number of inebriates^ Alexander Stevenson and Joseph Speight were each lined 20s, with the alternative of serving 48 hours' imprisonment. A-first offender was dealt with in the usual way.
A disturbance in the Clarendon Hotel last evening resulted in the appearance of Thomas Campbell, who was charged with .assaulting the licensee, Frederick Dobson,.jrefusing to quit "the premises, and wilfully- damaging a constable's helmet, valued at 11s 6d. On the of assault the accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, while on the. other charges he was convicted and discharged. . . . . An unfortunate set of circumstances was described in the case of Mary Brown, a married woman,'who'was charged with' being an idle and disorderly; person, in that she begged alms in Tiriakori-road. The Magistrate recorded a conviction, and ordered the defendant to come up for sentence when called upon on condition she entered the' Salvation Army Home. ,
