~~ A painful case came before the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when a young girl of good appearance was charged with stealing postal notes belonging to a local drapery and importing business. The girl admitted the thefts and was obviously distressed at her predicament.. Chief-Detective Boddam, who did not press for a heavy penalty, stated that the girl belonged to a respectable family and that, her father was at the front. After giving the girl some sound advice, Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., fined her 40s, with the alternative of serving seven days in gaol, and ordered her to •ctund the money.
