People who are inclined to remark about strong men selling ribbons and laces instead of serving with the fighting forces, would be surprised to see the Roll of Honour of the Wellington Soft Goods Employees' Union. Some months ago the list included some seventy names, and now the number is considerably greater. The union has prepared a record of members on active service, and this record is perpetuated in the form of a tastefully illuminated honour roll, with the names on a shield flanked by flags and surmounted by the Crown and a wreath of laurel. The illumination is the 'Work of Mr. H. B. Appleyard, a member of the union.
