The Grand National Meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club opened to-day in beautiful weather. The attendance is excellent and going good. Results : —

Hunt Club Cup, of 200 soys; about two miles and a-half.—Kaupokonui, 11.5, 1; Wellwdod, 11.11, 2 ; Golden Butterfly, 10.5, 3. Scratched: Handsome Boy. Kaupokonui was always well placed, and won by half a length. Butterfly was ten lengths away. Time, Smin 22 3-ssec.

Trial Hurdles, of 250 soys, one mile and three-quarters.—Dionysius, 10.2, 1; Compulsion, 10.9, 2; Miss Sation, 10.8, 3. All started. Compulsion was in front at the mile post, and led over the last hurdle, but Dionysius in a vigorous finish won by a length; two lengths between second and third. Time, 3min 22 3-ssec.

Grand National Hurdles, of 1200 soys ;

two miles and a-half. Sleight-of-Hand, 10.6 (A. M'Donald) ... 1 Sir Solo, 9.8 (L. Hagerty) 2

Sir Fisher, 10.6 (A. Ward)

Scratched: St. Elmn.

Sleight-of-Hand was in front, at the end of half a mile, and won easily by six lengths. Sir Fisher was six lengths away. Art and Leonta fell, and Bewi Poto pulled up. Time, 4min 49sec.

Avonh-ead Handicap, of 200 soys; six furlongs.—Euripos, 9.1, 1; Minesweeper, 9.6, 2; Epworth, 9.0, 3. Scratched— Grand Idea, Thames, Ascalaphus, and Kimbolton. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 17 4-ssec.
