Lieut. Alf. G. Jennings, M.C., obtained his decoration on Easter Monday last- for capturing a German machinegun and men which had been holding up a number of companies of his regiment, the Northumberland Fusiliers. In addition to the honour, he was appointed temporary captain. He is- the second son of Mr. W, T. Jennings, M.P. for Taumarunui, an"d was managing clerk for Johnston and Anderson, solicitors, of New Plymouth. He left New Zealand with the Main Expeditionary Force, and had service at the Canal, the Desert, and Gallipoli, where he got shell shock at Cape Helles, and was invalided to Malta- and then to Leicester Hospital for special treatment. Recovering, he went back to Egypt, and from there to France, where his captain (Capt. M'Coll, of Wellington) was killed at Armentieres. He returned to England, and received a 2nd lieutenant's commission in tli© Northumberland Fusiliers, and was one month in France when he received his honours. Lieut. Jennings was a well-known mcmber*of the Taraualri Rover Football Club, and took part in amateur opera performances in New 'Plymouth. Two of his brothers have made ■ the great sacrifice, Edgar at Quinn's Post, and Harold (lieutenant 1 RXA.) -from wounds at Loos. t
