AUSTRALIAN STEAMER OVERDUE
MILITARY DETACHMENT ON
BOARD.
MELBOURNE, 15th August.
The Federal Navy Office reports that the Burns-Philp steamer Matunga (1618 tons), en route from Sydney to Rabaul (New Guinea) is seven days' overdue. It is feared that she has been lost as the result of an internal explosion. She carried a small military detachment for Rabaul.
