SHORT-WEIGHT BUTTER
AN APPEAL LODGED.
This afternoon Mr. M. Myers, on behalf of Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co., lodged an appeal against the decision of Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., in fining the firm £40 on a charge of selling shortweight butter. Following are the grounds of the appeal:—(l) That it was not proved that the butter was under weight when sold by, defendants; . (2) that it was not proved that there was not a loss due to. evaporation . after the bntter was sold by the defendants; (3) that the evidence showed that the Io3S was due to evaporation ; (4) that the defendants did not act Wilfully, but took all reasonable steps to ascertain that the sale of the butter would not constitute an offence.
