THE SESSION

OPENED TO-MORROW

Members of Parliament are assembling in considerable numbers from the North and South ia readiness for the session, which will be opened at 2.30 to-morrow afternoon by His Excellency the Governor. It i$ not' certain what course will be followed in regard to the deaths during the recess of the Hon. Dr. M'Nab (member for Hawkes Bay) and the Hon. J. Duthie, M.L.C. The proceedings to-morrow afternoon will in all probability be purely formal, and will be followed by a reception at Government House, where the Right Hon. W. F. Massey and Mrs. Massey and Sir Joseph and Lady Ward are lor the time being the guests of His Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Liverpool.

On Friday the House must pass an Imprest Supply Bill,'.as the authority of the Government .to expend, public money closes,on the 30th, Saturday. It is possible, therefore, that the customary adjournment as a mark of respect.to the deceased legislators will be taken on Tuesday, and that the Address-in-Reply debate will be commenced either on Tuesday night or on Wednesday. It is considered likely that that debate will occupy a considerable time, several members having come full of complaints regarding details of administration. As regards legislation, the chief features will, of course; be the Loan Bill (probably for' £10,000,000) and the consequent revision of the.Land and Income Tax Bill. Ministers have already stated that only Bill* directly bearing on the war will be fciilt with as matters of urgency, but there are indications.. already that individual Ministers' will endeavour to put through measures affecting their particular Departments, unless their desires are checked as .the result of the return of Mr. Massey.
