The motion of Mr; J. X. Merrimari, in the Assembly at Capetown, "That efforts to carry oil a Republican /propaganda will inevitably lead to fatal dissensions and the ultimate ruin of the European races in. South Africa," wast carried by ii votes to 21. • . ''
The amendment by Sir Frederick De Waal regretting that there should be an impression that the natural aspirations Of the people regarding independence were disloyal ..and .unlawful, was negatived by a similar majority.- The minority -in the division was composed solely' of Nationalists. .
