/HOW EASTER WAS SPENT.

"Jack ashore" was well catered for during Good Friday and Easter by tho Sailors' Friend Society; and large .numbers of seafarers availed themselves of the hospitality of the society at tea and the subsequent events. On Good Friday there, ."wag a, well-attended tea-jneetHig in the afternoon, and in the, evening a song service was held. The soloists were Mr. F. S. Pope and the Mksea V. Mueller, M. Clarke,. D. Jones. Miss G&wfer was the 1 accompanist. , ■,'.' ■;".' -V ' ;
A vt ry fine ixxll of honour: (painted •by Miss Richmond), with views or the mountains, wireless station, the waterfront, shipping, and the roll resting upon tha sea and the flags of both navies was unveiled by Mrs. M. At Williams, th.c generous donor of the building. The large audience stood as Mri O'Brien played "Tfe I/ast Post" for those who among the forty, on the roll had given, their lives for King and country. Messrs. Badldsn and |i, C-. Reimer were.-the speakers. Mr. Moore, missioner, ■ conducted ' the service, and. Mr. Edmansoji took the lesson. '■■ "■ . '..■'•■• On EasteP Day were held bright services, with suitable singing. At tho harvest- thanksgiving . services, when many, gifts were .received to beautify the, church, the choir, was augmented for the occasion. by- the kindness of Madame- Mueller, who sang "I KnowThat My Redeemer liveth." Mass M. Gawler was at the organ. Mr. Moore, missioaer, was the preacher for, the day. The roll of- honour was placed in the church, where it waS much admired afterthe services., , At the. song service in the .institute" there w,as a very full* attendance, when after hymns chosen by the men, Madame Mueller, the, Misses P> Jones, '.. Halliburton, and Holdsworth, and Messrs. Macfariane,' Cate, Byron Bro;>vn, and Culverwell rendered; quartettes, etc-, such as "Lead, Kindly Light" and "Evening and Morning." The .seafareis' tea was much enjoyed; • ' J. On Easter Monday an. all-day picnic wap-held in a deligKtM' spot kind!'.plaiced at the society's disposal by vjeliwishers. Mrs. M. A. Williams visited the' party dtoing the afternoon. Ihe men. gave some fuany and'stirring esliibifcioiis. Prizes were won by Messrs. Stabbins,' Meehan, Alty, Pringle, Farley. Sebvski,' and'Morrison. The concert given by Mrs. H. Colpus in the evening was deUghtrul in .every way. The following were' the performers >^-Mrs. Alexander, ■ the Misses Guianinghani, Barr, ana" Tomlin, and Messrs. EdmanEon, M'Farlane. Phillips, Cooper, and Boyd. . /
