Ledger, Controller of Money Orders and Savings Banks in the Post and Telegraph Department, has retired on superannuation after fortyyears' service. Mr. Ledger joined the service as a cadet in the Head Office on' j 26th February, 1877, was appointed to a 1 clerkship io 1881, ■ and in December, '■ 1895, took up the position of second ; clerk in the Accountant's branch. This : position he occupied until April, 1900, ' when he. was appointed first clerk,, and j some seven years later succeeded the ! present Secretary of the Department, Mr. W. R. Mowis, as Assistant Controller of the Money Orders and Savings Banks. In' 1908, on Mr. Morris's appointment to the position of Assistant Secretary of the Department, Mr. Ledger became , Controller of Money Orders and Savings Banks and Accountant of the General Post Office, which position,. . he* has occupied up to the present Mr. Ledger is being succeeded by Mr. . H. A. B. Huggins, at- present .Chief ■ Accountant of-the "Department, who, in addition to his present duties, is taking .up" the control of money orders and savings banks. Mr. i Huggins has been in the service since 1883, and has spent the whole of his official career, in the General Post Office. The new Controller and Accountant is well known throughout the service, and has represented the officers of the service for many, years on -. the Superannuation Board.
