In the Supreme Court tins morning the Maori lad David Paul Mitchell came before his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman for sentence on a charge of having set fire to a school at Clareville, near Carterton. Mr.' Putnam, who appeared for the lad, said that an influential Maori at Greytown had interested himself in the case and would look after the boy if he were admitted to probation. His Honour admitted the lad to probation for two years, on condition that ho returns to the Hikurangi College at Clareville until regularly discharged, thereafter to remain with Iraia te WJiaiti, of Wairarapa.
