METHODIST CONFERENCE
BUSINESS SESSION
The Methodist Conference resumed its business sessions yesterday, the Rev. W. A. Sinclair presiding.
After devotional exercises the conference went into District Committees in order to select lay representatives on the Stationing Committee. In open conference the following were nominated and declared elected: Auckland, Messrs. Tyler and J. , Veale; South Auckland, Messrs. W. Richards and G. H. Gilling; Taranaki-Wanganui, Messrs. G. Dixon and J- T. Grifien; Hawkes BayManawatu, Messrs. Cunnold . and Oldham; Wellington, Messrs. W. E. Rids•ton and C. Linneberg; Nelson, Messrs. W. D. Pike and Bell; North j Canterbury, Messrs. H. Buttle and W. Seed; South Canterbury, ; Messrs. Cleverton and F : Frampton; Otago, Messrs. E. Roseveare and- J. Dawson; Southland, Messrs. Froggart and J. J. Wesney.
Following are the ministerial members of the committee:—Auckland, Revs. C. H. Garland and 0. H. Laws, • 8.A.; South Auckland, Revs. S. J. Sferpell and P. J.. Cosssum; Taiariaki-Wanganui, Revs. T. G. A. .Hay; ..Southland, Revs. W. i Ready and S. Bailey. : Conference decided to permit several circuits in South Auckland, disfranchised owing to matters arising out of the ■to, have representation. In.doing so it endorsed the previous action of the President. . \ .
The Rev. J. Dawson moved a vote of thanks to the retiring President (Rev. A. C- Lawry), to whom he paid a glowing tribute for his work on behalf of the Church during his year of office. They all rejoiced that ■ he- had finished ' his year's labours in the best of health and spirits. The motion . was. carried with much enthusiasm, and Mr. Lawry suitably replied. Votes of thanks to Mr. George Winstone (ex-Vice-president of the Conference) and the Rev. W. A. Sinclair (ex-secretary) were also carried by acclamation.
The method of allowing candidates for the ministry to participate' in the Conference Expenses Equilibrium Fund was referred to a committee^
It was decided that the treasurer of the 'Military Committee (Mr. C. M. Luke, Wellington) should be admitted as a member of the Conference without voting power. It was explained that Mr. Luke could not be given a vote, as it would mean a' serious violation of the constitution.
Applications were received for extended appointments from the following circuits :—Taranaki-street; Wellington (Rev. J. G. Chapman, 7th year) ; Christchurch East (Rev. W. A.' Sinclair,' 6th year); Nelson (Rev. W. Baumber, '6th year). These applications were referred to' a special 'committee. ■ '..
