AN UNUSUAL CASE

DISCHARGED SOLDIER ASKS FOR

EXTENSION OF TIME.

(BT TELEOEAPH.—SPHCIiI, 10 IH! POST.)

'AUCKLAND, This Day.

The Auckland Military Service Board heard an unusual case, in which a returned discharged soldier who had re-en-listed applied for an extension of time.

Major Conlan, the Defence Department representative, also appeared in an unusual capacity, as a supporter of tho appeal. He said appellant had left with the Main Body, and had fought in the Gallipoli campaign.. On returning he had resumed the practice of his profession of solicitor, and his re-enlistment meant the sacrifice of a good position and salary. Appellant had thought when he again offered his services that he would be able to arrange his affairs to enable him to go into camp with the next draft, but certain domestic - circumstances had arisen which made it necessary for him to seek an extension of time.

Appellant said that, if possible, he would like from three to five months' leave.

The Chairman said appellant had displayed a fine spirit, and the board would be pleased to meet him in every way. The Minister -would be recommended to grant appellant leave until Ist August.
