WAIWETU CLUB
- The committee of the. Waiwetu Golf Club, in its annual report, states that tho ladies' championship was won by Miss E.\ Gaynor and the men's championship was narrowed : down to a tie between J. M. Dawson and W. Whitehead, but the final was not played. Tho Atkins Cup competition ended in a tie between J. L. Black and Dr.. A. G. Jones. The Silver Ball competition was won by G. A. Wilkes. During the season it was decided that'until the ter-mination-of the war the value'of . all prizes should be donated to. patriotic funds. The amount of pvize money handed over to the Red Cross Fund for 1916 was £6 16s 6d. .The membershipof the" club -stands at 93, ma.de up of 70 men and 23 la-dies. ' Twenty-eight members are at the .front; The ' committee records with sincere' regret the deaths of three members—Messrs. L. G. TayJbr and A. E. Hunt (at the front) and J. Eman Smith. The financial position' is very sound, the club ending the year with a, credit balance of £21 13s Bd. For the coming season it will be necessary to curtail the expenditure as much as possible, as the revenue is decreasing each 1 year' on account of- so many members being at the .front. ■ ■
