THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
It is understood that Messrs. Harold Beauehamp (Wellington) and J. H. Upton (Auckland), directors representing the Government on the Board of Directors of the Bank of New Zealand, will be reappointed on the expiration of their present term of office on 31st March next.
Mr. Beauehamp was first appointed a director of the Bank on 31st December, 1898, being a member of the first board that was created under the provisions of the Bank of New Zealand and Banking Act Amendment Act, which was passed in October of that year. His colleagues on the board were Messrs. J. R. Blair, F de C. Malet, and W. Milne (appointed by the Government), and Messrs. Martin Kennedy and William Watson, who represented the shareholders. The first chairman of the new board was Mr. J. R. Blair, who held office until the end of 1901. Mr. Malet, who succeeded Mr. Blair as chairman, resigned the position at 31st March, 1907, and Mr. Bea-uciiamp, who had filled the position of acting-chairman during the absence of Mr. Malet in England in 1905 was elected chairman, and held office until 31st March, 1912. During his absence from the Dominion he was not reappointed as ' a director by the Government at 31st March, 1912, and Mr. Martin Kennedy, the acting-chair-man, was elected chairman. On Mr. Beauchamp's return from England he was invited by the Government, at the end of .1912, to accept a seat on the board rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. J. B. Reid. Mr. Beauehamp was acting-chairma.n during Mr. Kennedy.'s absence in England, and at 31st March, 1913, again became chairman, and has held office since- that date.
Of the original board which first took office in 1898, Messrs. J. R. Blair, F. de C. Malet, and Martin Kennedy have passed away. The members of the present 'board are : Messrs. H. Beauehamp, J. H. Upton, W. Recce, and D.. J. Nathan, who hold office under Government appointment, and Messrs. W. Watson and R. W. Kane, who represent the shareholders. .
Mr. J. 11. Upton, of Auckland," has been a member of the board since 31st March, 1913. and was acting-chairman during Mr. Beauchamp's recent absence from the Dominion.
