A deputation from the Women's Recuiting Committee urged the Chief Secretary (Mr. Hax.ham) to comb out eligibles available for service in all business houses," replacing them by returned soldiers, married men and rejects, or women. Mr. Haxham tn reply stated that he was strongly opposed to coercive measures, which .were highly improper.
