The Masterton Racing Club has issued an attractive programme for its Autumn Meeting on 15th and 16th March. The Cup is worth 275 soys; March Handicap, six furlongs, 140 soys; Opaki Welter, 140 soys, one mile; Telephone Handicap, of 140 soys, five furlongs; Waipipi Handicap, 185 soys, one mile and a'distance; Final Welter, of 140. soys,. seven furlongs. Owners and .trainers are reminded that nominations for all handicap events, .also entries for the Maiden Hack Race, five furlongs, and Autumn Hack Scurry, four furlongs, closs to-morrow at 10 p.m. with Mr. A. There s are 14 horses engaged, but most of them have been left in through oversight. The field, will probably be made up of Bimeter, Hymestra, Estland, and one of the Highden team. Mr. G. G. Stead won the first two contests for the race with Royal Artillery and Machine Gun. He also scored with Isolt. Tho Poririia champion, Achillc.? : won , the race three years in succession. Mr. AY.. E. Bidwill was successful with Gianitation and Provocation. Another owner to score ou. more than one occasion -was Mr. G-. D. Greenwood, who won with Armlet and Emperador. The last named scored twice. The Lethe mare Pursefiller met with a mishap recently, and it may be some time before she is able to race again. Southern papers report that M. Hobbs is working both these three-year-olds along steadily, though they have not yet been set any severe tasks since their arrival here. Eligible, the four-year-okl brother of The Toff, has been sold by Mr. W. G. Stead to the Hawkes Bay owner,. Mr. T. E. Welch. Eligible will be treated to a further spell, after which an attempt will be made to train him again. Troublesome, who returned- to Auckland after winning the Adelaide Grand National Steeplechase last August, is now in active work at Ellerslie, alter a good race. The Spalpeen gelding is not a hard horse to handle, and he may lie ready to race in the autumn. . The Hastings trainer, J. A.' Hennah,' who was drawn in the ballot last week, owned Captain Jingle when ho won the Napier, Wellington, and Grand National Steeplechases a few years ago.
