LONG-DISTANCE RACE

Eleven boats faced the starter for the long-distance race of tho Port Nicholson Yacht Club. 'The course was from the starting-line round the Pinnacle buoy to ■a buoy off Petone Wharf, back to Jerningl'iam, thenco to the starting line- The starters were: . Waitdngi scr, Kotiri lOmin, Wairere 15min, Viola 19mm, Atlanta 26min, Windward 26min, Viking 27min, Nannette 27min, Rawene 3Smin, lolanthe 37miii, Venus 39min. The Waitangi, Wairere, Atlanta, and Nannette ■started a few minutes late. Windward rounded the Pinnacle buoy first, followed closely by the other boats, Wairere soon took the; lead, and finished 2min 3sec ahead of Waitangi. Wairere finished 6hrs 22min 15sec; Waitangi, 6hrs 24min 12sec; Viola, 6hrs .34min 50sec; Venus, 6hrs 36min 26sec; Kotiri, 6hrs 41min 35s'jc; lola.ru.he, 6hrs 43min 27sec. On tima allowance A. Elton's Venus was placed first. G. M'Lean's lolnnthe second, and E. Bucholz's'Wairere third. Mr. .R. Millman was handicapper, and Mr. H. Jordan starter, judge, and timekeeper.
