A returned soldier, named Percival Leonard Caldwell, lias been fined 5s at Wanganui for calling Thos. Roscoe a "shirker." Ttoseoe, who is a joiner, said lie considered he had not shirked his liabilities. He did not consider the defendant was justified in using the words lie did. He was unaware that people had called him and his brother shirkers. Personally, he was prepared to go. when forced! The Magistrate (Mr. Hewitt, S.M.)j stated that in future cases of the kind he would impose heavier fines.
