. Peter Scott Ramsay, president of the Anti-Conscription League, whp appeared on remand at Christchurch. to-day on charges of seditious utterances, made> a ,long speech, which was cut short by Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., who said tho speech was against recruiting. He sentenced tho accused to eleven months' imprisonment, concurrent, on each of two charges," and said he did not give a year's sentence, as there would be a question -then whether. tho accused would still come within the Reserve.
Mr. S. 'G. Raymond, K.C., said Ijhe military authorities could take Ramsay almost any time to camp, as he had been drawn in the ballot. He made that Statement because a lot .of these men thought they would he safer in gaol than in Flanders. v
