Much has beon done by the police in Wellington towards ridding the city of the presence of undesirable women, advantage being taken of the powers conferred by the War Regulations. That the women in question are a serious menace to the community was emphasised in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when an old offender in the person of Bryda. Sheehan was charged with loitering in Abel Smith-street for the purpose of prostitution. "These women are a positive danger to the community," remarked Inspector Hendrey, "and I wish to draw your Worship's attention to the War Eegulations, which allow a, maximum fine of £100 or 12 months' imprisonment." The Magistrate decided that the best course would he to send the accused to gaol for three mouths.
