IMPORTANT PROPOSAL
CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT FARM.
The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald,. Minister of Agriculture, telegraphed to Mr., \V. H. Field, M.P., yesterday,as follows-,— •. -i '
"Sincerely regret that owing to important Cabinet meeting being called, f shall not be able to carry out my in-, tention to be with you to-day, but as another Cabinet meeting has been called for this afternoon, at which I must be present, this course is impossible. Kindly, apologise for my absence, and explain the position. I trust the future will be thoroughly successful. The following maybe of interest: The whole of the operations of the Wereroa Experimental Farm are being reorganised to make it tite centre for the agricultural developt went of the Dominion, and for this reason the institution will in future bet known as the Central Development Farm. Another important feature will be the! training of a number of suitably edu« cated students as agricultural experts, whether for the service of the Department of Agriculture or for the teaching of agriculture in secondary schools. A number of bursaries are being offered by .the Education Department of a value oE £50, or equivalent, to enable young men to take a course at the Central Development Farm. In addition, my own Department is advertising for student-as-sistants at a commencing salary equal to £50 per annum. It is hoped by these two means a group of suitable young men will be obtained, and that as a result there will be available!a few years hence a supply of men highly trained to deal with New Zealand's special agricultural problem. This, is is expected, will have a far-reaching effect upon fanning of the Dominion \n years to come'. "■
