jMf. William Cooper, eldest brother of his Honour Mr. Justice Cooper, who for many years past has been law reporter for the Auckland district, is relinquishing that position owing to serious impairment of his eyesight. "Hie Auckland Law Society have granted him twelve months' leave of absence prior to his resignation taking effect. Mr. Cooper was several years ago on tho Bench at . Samoa. Quite a number of Inveroargill school boys have spent their holidays in the country at the shearing sheds, and, according to the Southland Dally News, have accumulated largo cheques. One, afraid that ho had not passed a recent examination, and being determined to have another year at school whatever tho result of the test, arranged with a local agent to work at three sheds in- the Lake district, and returned with £15— more than sufficient for his educational requirements should he have to pay for his tuition at the school during-the coming year.
