A rather involved case came before Mr. L. G. Reid,. S.M.-,., for * decision at' the Magistrate's Court this morning. A man was charged with having made a false declaration to the Registrar of Mar. riages—that he .was a .bachelor—in order to obtain a certificate of marriage. It was mentioned during the hearing that the accused had a wife in Australia some years ago, but nobody in Court seemed to know, whether she is alive now or not, and there was a suggestion that if the accused's wife were dead he should have described himself as a widower, hut the Magistrate, without prejudice, dismissed the case against the accused, for whom Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared. Mr. T. H. Sherwood, late secretary of | the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Public Service, Association, goes into camp next week with the 26th Reinforcement draft.
