PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
The committee of the "Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met yesterday afternoon, Mr. F. Meadowcroft being in the chair. The following subscriptions were receiv- | ed and acknowledged during the past two. weeks: —Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains £1 Is, Mr. J. R. Blair £1, Messrs. Findlay, Dalziell, and Howard ■ 10s 6d, Mr. W, G. Mantell 10s, Mr. G. H. Scales 7s 6d, Messrs. G. Winder, Hill and Sons, Rash Milk Co., Mesdames K. M. Simpson, o'. Young, C. Christie, 5s each, Mr. Joliffe 2s 6d, Friend Is; total £5 2s 6d. The Inspector's report showed that 12 ! cases of cruelty had been dealt with J during the past fortnight, and three pro- f seditions were being proceeded with. B» j gret was expressed by the chairman at the poor financial position of the society and it was hoped that, those interested - in the work would lend assistance.
