TOWN HALL RENTS

From time to time tho question of charges for the Town Hall has received consideration by the City Council. Mr. John Tait, of the firm of'j. and N. Tait, stated to a reporter yesterday that the charges in Wellington were certainly too heavy, and he compared them with the rents in. Melbourne and. Sydney. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) was approached by a Post reporter to-day regarding tho matter, and he stated that the charges here were, according to information supplied to the council, approximately the same as those for the Sydney Town HalL Whether the council would recast their charges was a matter for the members to determine. At last meeting of the conntil the question was mentioned, and the Mayor promised that the Finance Committee would look into it and see whether tho time had arrived .for a remodelling of the charges.
