THE ATTEMPT TO CRUSH RUMANIA
MOTIVES OF THE ENEMY.

LONDON, 12th October
M. Basilesco, a member of tho Rumanian; Parliament, writing ,to The Times, says he believes that the following are the motives for the attempt to crush Rumania : Victory would mean the consolidation of German mastery from the North Sea to the Persian Gulf, the invasion of Russia from the south, via Bessarabia, the control of the Black Sea, perhaps a decisive victory in the East. Also, the securing of vast Rumanian stores of corn, petroleum, benzine, mineral oil, salt, timber, a good railway system, the Danube transport, besides the crops.
The writer exhorts the Allies to do their utmost to protect Rumania, thereby shortening the war and saving railIkittft of lives and hundreds of Millions of m.one.y.
