AN INTERESTING VESSEL.

Last Friday (says the Sydney Shipping List) tho Caledonian Coal Co. despatched tho Chilian barque Quaytecas from Newcastle with 1912 tons of coal for Mejillones. Considering that this vessel is only 1179 tons register, and 30 years old, she carries a big cargo for her tonnage, and is a very profitable investment in theso days of high freights. The Guaytecas is rather an interesting vessel, and while at. Sydney attracted much attention. When she was launched in Scotland in 1886, she was known as tho Westward Ho, and ten years later she was sold to German buyers and renamed Bille; then after the lapse of another ten yoars she was disposed of again, and eventually became the Guaytecas. So sho has been sold every ten years, and if .she keeps up this reputation and is still afloat, sho should bo sold again in 1924. Ono of the attractions about the Guaytecas is her two bolls. On one boll is inscribed the name "Westward Ho," and on the other bell is the name "Bille," while on tho bow and stern of the vessel is Guaytecas. Captain Rumbit, of the Guaytecas, ia accompanied by his wifo and two children.

A * record was established by the directors of tho British Steamship Investment Trust, Limited, says Fairplay. Tho company's financial year ended on tho 30th June, and on the evening of that day it was announced that the directors had decided to recommend the payment of a final dividend of 10 per "cent, on the deferred stock, making 20 per cent, for the year, together with a bonus of 25 per cent., less income tax. To declare tho final dividend for the year on the closing day of tho year is to Jeave no opporttin- : ity. for inside information to leak out, ior which the shareholders will no'doubt be grateful, and they will probably feel eveti more grateful for the dividend and bonus of 45 par csnt., which ia a vscard for tha caxcpanyj
