HEAVY FIGHTING REPORTED
FIERCE ENEMY ATTACKS IN.
PROGRESS.

LONDON, Ist September. A Russian communique states: In Thursday's battles we took 15,700 prisoners, oi' whom 2400 were Germans. —
A bullet in the head killed Major-Gen-eral Nikitin.
Stubborn fighting is raging in the direction of Vladimir Volinski and in the region of Lokachi. Fierce enemy attacks, the fighting,, being accompanied by uninterrupted' enemy aerial reconnaissances, are proceeding westward of Oleksimetz (? Aleksmietz).
There is fierce fighting in the direction of Halicz . (west of :- the Zlota Lipa) in the region of tho River HorozanKa. We captured a whole series of heights in the Carpathians in the region of the Tonnatio Mountain. We advanced slightly westwards of Doma Vatra. .
