FURTHER RETIREMENT INEVITABLE
LONDON, Ist September. Berlin newspapers announce that the Rumanians are advancing on Hermannstadt, to effect a junction with the other troops from Kronstadt. The Russians and Rumanians are also in touch in Bukowina, where there is heavy fighting in the Gvergyoer Mountains. German correspondents at Austrian headquarters urge the public not to be alarmed at further retirements. They admit that the Austrians are not now in a condition to hold the long new front, and that further retirements are inevitable. s "TAKING PLACE !N PERFECT ORDER." (Received September 2, 8.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, Ist September. The Berlin Tageblatt states that the plan of Austrian Headquarters provided for a systematic withdrawal of the army in Transylvania, which is taking place in perfect order, in spite of the proximity of the Rumanians. jlii the Eastern Carpathians the Austrians have linked up with the Teuton army in Bukowina by failing back from the crests and passes in the Gyergyo Range. Commenting on the (withdrawal from Kronstadt Valley, the Tageblatt says f"The loss of the city is painfully felt in Hungary, but the loss is not final.'-''
