rA most sensational week ends with a report that King Constantine has abdicated his throne, and that Greece finds her place on the side of the Allies. • Prince George, it is stated, succeeds his father, but M. Zaimis remains in control of the Government with the support of M. iVenizelos. Earlier messages stated that the Premier had resigned, and that there had been revolts in some cities, and that three regiments had mutinied. In Germany, Hindenburg is being looked to as the saviour of the country. The Kaiser has.given him practically dictatorial powers. Enlightened Germans realise that the game is up, but that he may avert an overwhelming disaster. The news of the Rumanian offensive in Transylvania is very cheering, the resistance of the enemy being shattered, and his country deeply penetrated. The enemy reports that the systematic •withdrawal which had been decided upon is taking place in perfect order.. The first report of Bulgaria's declaration of war upon Rumania was premature. To-day it is announced that war has been declared. A British casualty list gives the figures for August at 4693'offieers and 123,097 men, the total killed being 20,676,
