SYRIANS AND ASSYRIANS

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Mr. Wilford makes a curious mistake" in his letter headed "An Appeal for tho Assyrians." Eight times he calls the people he appeals for "Assyrians"; but he means "Syrians," those people who dwell in the Lebanon Mountains, whom in a quotation he correctly calls "Maronites." The Marouites "(who are Christians) are constantly harassed by their neighbours, the Druses (who are Moslems). Now that the Turks are at war with England and France, they and the Druses have seized the opportunity to try to exterminate the Maronite Syrians, as they have done tho Armenians. I enclose a trifle for the "Syrians," and I hope Mr. Wilford's appeal may lead to help being i sent them.—l am, etc., LEBA_TOX; i lsMjv
