GROSSING THE ZLOTA AND LIP A
PROGRESS. IN.THE CARPATHIANS PETP.OGRAD, 15th August. A Russian official communique- states : The crossing of the Zlota Lipa continues, in spito of a bombardment which ;is hindering the construction, of bridges. Owing to our pressure, the enemy in the wooded region of the Carpathians, between the branches of the Pruth, has evacuated ja-blonitza, which wo have occupied. We have also reoccupied Vorckhta, and Ardjeluz, on the Pruth. Our offensive continues. [The High Commissioner's report supplements the above by stating that thirty-two officers and a thousand men were taken at the Pruth.*] AUSTRIAN RETIREMENT ADMITTED. LONDON, 16th August. An Austrian official communique states : Our battalions southwards of Tartarov withdrew to the Tartaren Pass before superior Russian forces. We repulsed six massed attacks near. Horovanka.
