Lord Ranfuriy. in a. cablegram to thesecretary of the St. John Ambulance Association, intimates that New Zealand Ambulances for our transport of wounded soldiers in England have been sent to France, and that fresh New Zealand Motor Ambulances are urgently needed by Colonel Parkes for England.
The origin of the fire which destroyed the tablet station and post office at Mangamahoo on Saturday morning is shrouded in mystery. The postmistress was last in the building at about 10.30 o'clock, when everything was apparently safe. The loss to the Department will • be fairly heavy, as besides the usual . equipment there was a fair amount of • public property stored in the building.
