EXTENSION OF PARLIAMENT
LABOUR PROTEST. At' Alexandra Hall last night a crowded meeting was held to protest against the life of the present Parliament being extended without reference to tho electors. The speakers were delegates to the Labour Conference .which has been sitting in Wellington./ Mr. T. Brindle (chairman) moved, and Mr. R. Ross (Feilding) seconded, the following motion:. " That this meeting of Wellington citizens emphatically protests against the attempt to postpone the Parliamentary and local elections, and declares that the proposal is in itselE evi.'•dence that the Parliamentary supporters of Prussian conscription dread the verdict of the people at the polls." Mr. Ross said that the people of New 1 Zealand were going to pass their verdict in no uncertain manner upon the revolutionary measures passed, and proposed to be passed, by their autocratic Government, and it was for this reason that the Government and its supporters were afraid to go-to the poll at tho proper time. The motion was supported by Messrs. "H. E. Holland and W. Parry and declared carried unanimously.
