The Manchester Guardian says that as Australian shipping is free from most of ■the taxes imposed on British lines, Mr. Hughes's investment promises to be very successful, and will rouse envy among ■the English shipping competitors. He supervised the deal personally, and it iwas so quietly done that it came as a 'complete surprise in the city.
