AGAINST AUCKLAND FARMERS'

ATTITUDE.

(BY TSLEGIUPH,—?KEg itSSOCHTIO.f.)

CHRISTCHUKCH, 16th Juns.

At a meeting of the Navy League Wai' Fund Committee to-night*, the Following motion was carried :—" That the Canterbury branch of the Navy League haye rea-d with regret the Press Association message in the newspapers :n which Mi. Ross, chairman of the, Auckland branch of the Farmers' Union, expressed . his opinion -that it is the duty of the Imperial Government- .to provide for the dependents of men of the Navy; the committee strongly disapprove of this suggestion, believing that no man in this Dominion could maintain his self-respect whilst sheltering wholly behind the British taxpayer, since the safety and welfare of one and all depend absolutely on the supremacy of the British Navy."
