After The Post went to press yes-, terday afternoon the House of Kepresentatives- continued its consideration'ira committee of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Amendment Bill.

Some discussion took place as to ths purchase of land required for the purpose of the Act. It was urged thai; care should be taken to see that the land was of the best quaHty, easily capable of being cut up, and within1 easy access of the railway. Mr. Payne! moved to amend the clause dealing witiji the subject (No. 7) by striking out the;' proposal that debentures given for land! taken under the Act shall be exempt' from income tax.

Replying to a considerable amount of criticism, the Prime Minister said that the rate of interest, was going up, and' that in England to-day money could noi»! be obtained even in large sums.at less, than 5i per cent.
