FURTHER PROGRESS BY GENE
RAL SMUTS'S FORCES.
The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, 16th June, 8.20 p.m. General Smuts reports to-day that portion of General Hoskins's column, under Brig.-General Shep.pard, reached Kwedizwa, six mile 6 north of Hendeni, on Thursday. A considerable German force is reported to be entrenched near the water supply at Hendeni.
Simultaneously, Brig.-General Hannygton's column, advancing along the railway, occupied an important station at Korogwe, securing a wagon bridge over the Pangani River. .
At Lake Victoria, our forces occupied the Island of Ukerewe, north of the German port of Mwanza, capturing two Krupp guns and some stores.
