FEDERATION OF LABOUR
CONFERENCE NEXT MONTH.
■ The Annual Conference of the United Federation of Labour will open in AVellington.on 4th July. Among the remits already forwarded for' discussion are the following:— i From Canterbury Printers,' Machinists,' and Bookbinders' Union' suggesting that Conference try to establish a rule in all New Zealand unions that any unionist may become a member of any "genuine-union upon presenting-his clearance card, .thus obviating the necessity of paying "entrance fees into more than one union.
From Christchurch Furniture Trade Union recommending that Conference consider the advisability of starting a co-operative system of trading for the benefit of the workers of the Dominion.
From Auckland General Labourers' Union recommending (1) That the Con-ference-sit in the different centres in turn, beginning in 1917; (2) That Conference , protest ..against '„ the Order-in-Council'suspending Under-rate Workers' Clause in the Awards of the Arbitration Court; (3) That the' Minister, of Defence be appealed to to establish local camps in the different centres; (4) That Conference censure the Government for its inactivity in relation to the high cost of living; (5) That the Government be requested to nationalise the medical profession; ■;■ '.",' ";..'.'
